This is a complete kit (unless you have chosen the Hardware & Strings-Only Option, see far below), except with No Wood components, based on the plans found in the John Kovac classic book, "Harpmaking Made Simple". Each N.W. kit comes with everything you need is included (except for your own choice of wood & auxiliary hardware, etc.). Kit contains plans, strings, dedicated hardware, string tuning mechanisms, eTuner, string winder & a tuning wand.
You select your own wood components to cut & shape your own harp to create a unique musical instrument but, with pre-engineered sound & performance. Give us an email or call for further guidance or recommendations. Plus, you'll need to supply your own tools, glue, etc., to create & finish the harp.
Paraguayan Harps are known for their ease of play, less wide string spacing, bright treble & tight, efficient bass. Plus, these harps can be many pounds lighter in weight and their physical sizes are a bit smaller than comparably sized, Celtic-styled, folk lever Harps.
Paraguayan style harps have less string tension than conventional harps and are therefore much easier on the fingers. The strings are a bit more closely spaced - very nice for children & easier for those without large hands.
The harmonic curve of the neck of a Paraguayan harp is rivaled only by that of a concert harp. Paraguayan harps are engineering marvels - exceptionally lightweight, which produces a brilliant sound. The strings run through the center of the neck, and the tension of the strings actually holds the harp together in a balanced way. Like the Paraguayans, we should strive to make our harps as light as possible. A lighter harp means a more responsive sounding harp.
If you plan on creating your own similar harp from scratch, we suggest using the included DIY book "Harpmaking Made Simple". The book has 3 plans included with Full-Sized template cutouts for 22, 29 & 34/36 string harps. Using the book makes it much easier to build your own harp.
The kit comes with the following, totals depending on the size of the harp you plan to build:
Solid brass eyelets
Precision geared tuning machines- no slipping, no tuning wrench
Wrapped bass strings & Mono-filament strings (B2 to B6 for the largest harp)
String Colors are Red-C's & Blue-F's (Unless you specify the opposite.)
Various Screws & Hardware & feet, etc.
"Harpmaking Made Simple" master plans book included.
An alternative plan set for a take-apart option using large dowels.
OPTIONAL: Kits are available without all the accessories if you have purchased a full, non-wood kit (above) in the recent past. See the Hardware & String Only Options at the top choice menu. (No HMS Book, DVD, Wand, Winder, eTuner nor the alternative Dowel Plans.)
