Please note our shipping policy for all kits:  S/H Policy

The original Kovac model Harpune is a Paraguayan-inspired, lightweight & compact 26 string folk harp with beautiful tone & lighter string tension. This basic version consists of the harp's body with an open back & no legs or feet. In this kit, we provide the plans, instructions, strings & hardware, you provide the wood from the local lumber or big box stores.

The harp has 26 South American standard, color-coded strings: Blue C's/Red F's. (Please, use the "Special instructions for seller" in the shopping cart to specify if you prefer the North American standard of Red C's/Blue F's). Please note, the color of the string does not affect its tone.

The harp's scale starts at its low C and ends about 3.5 Octaves above it (G).

Plans with Full-Sized templates are included. And, we include a supplemental instructional DVD format to assist in assembly using your own provided, choice woods. The DVD also has a section on tuning and playing by ear. The DVD is not necessary in order to make your harp.

The kit is simple to put together & can be assembled in about a day or so using basic hand tools. Stringing & tuning will take several hours more. Surface finishing could take a day or two longer, depending on your chosen finish & method of application.

The HARPUNE also comes with an optional simple plan to achieve sharps and flats, called Taquitos, which are small dowels set behind certain strings to achieve the semitones. They are introduced in the Kit Plans and if chosen to be used, should be installed a few weeks after the harp has settled in.

Parts include:

  • 26 Mono-filament Strings using Dupont's Tynex brand

DVDs are not guaranteed for successful playback on all Disc Players in the world.

(Almost all Disc Players will work just fine. A handful may be out of specifications and not play these discs. If one player won't work, another will for certain.)

Go to Harp Resources Page.

* Please note: Economy tuners are not warranted.

Economy tuners typically experience an expected failure rate of 15% or more, on average, during the first months (or longer) after installation & use. They are far less expensive & easier to afford but require exacting installation & careful use. Economy tuners are provided especially for beginners on budgets.

As necessary, over time, if a tuning mechanism drive gear gets damaged on your harp, you can use a spare tuner or buy a separate tuner mech and just use the parts from it like the drive gear alone. Economy tuner mechanisms are very quick and easy to change out if necessary.

We recommend using our Standard string tuning mechanisms, especially if this is your first harp project or if you are not mechanically inclined (regardless of how many years you may have worked with wood). Economy tuners can save some cost upfront but require much greater care in their installation and ongoing use.

We provide a tuner care document to help you get the best out of your economy tuner purchase. See this link.

If you make a mistake on your kit, even if not caused by us, please, notify us right away and we will see how we can help you to complete your kit anyway. You never know how we might be able to help you, which is our goal; for you to be successful in your harp building & playing! We won't abandon you in your kit-building process after the purchase, either. Let's work together!
