The Harpune is a Paraguayan-styled, lightweight & compact 26 string folk harp with beautiful tone & lighter string tension. This basic version consists of the harp's body with an open back. See the Deluxe options below for plans to add a back panel.
The harp has 26 American standard, color-coded strings: Red C's/Blue F's. (Specify if you prefer the Paraguayan standard of Blue C's/Red F's).
Please note, the color of the string does not affect its tone. However, we have begun to default to the American Standard of string colors since most if not all harp teachers, music instruction books, and players in North America use Red C's/Blue F's.
The harp's scale starts at Middle C and ends about 3.5 Octaves above Middle C (C to G).
Plans with Full-Sized templates are included. And, we include an instructional DVD to assist in assembly using your own provided, choice woods. The DVD also has a section on tuning and playing by ear.
The kit is simple to put together & can be assembled in about a day or so using basic hand tools. Stringing & tuning will take several hours more. Surface finishing could take a day or two longer, depending on your chosen finish & method of application.
The HARPUNE also comes with an optional simple plan to achieve sharps and flats, called Taquitos, which are small dowels set behind certain strings to achieve the semitones. They are introduced in the Kit Plans and if chosen to be used, should be installed a few weeks after the harp has settled in.
